As preparations began for Fort Ligonier’s bicentennial, the idea for a local DAR chapter emerged, spearheaded by our founding regent. A planning meeting was held on June 1, 1957. The Western Pennsylvania director and state membership chair conducted an instructive meeting for 22 future DAR members.
The new DAR chapter’s organizational meeting was held on December 28, 1957, in the United Presbyterian Church. The founding chapter regent appointed officers and committee chairmen and the 27 attendees unanimously named the new chapter “Fort Ligonier.” On December 6, 1958, thirty-two charter members celebrated the first anniversary of the Fort Ligonier Chapter, NSDAR, with a large three-tiered birthday cake.
