National Society Daughters of the American Revolution
Historic Preservation – Education – Patriotism
National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR) is a lineage-based membership service organization for women who are directly descended from a Patriot who fought or aided in the fight for America’s independence. DAR is dedicated to promoting historic preservation, education, patriotism and honoring the Patriots of the American Revolution.
Mission
Historic Preservation
In preparation for America’s 250th birthday, our members are pursuing the placement of a memorial granite marker locating the American Revolutionary War Fort Preservation and honoring the men who served there. Researching documentary evidence is ongoing to identify, by name, the militiamen who served at this fort. Transcribing their pension applications provides eyewitness accounts of activities at Fort Preservation.
Education
Our members support local and DAR schools, Through donations of our time and educational materials, we support local libraries and historical societies, and encourage the love of reading in preschoolers by supporting the Dolly Parton Imagination Library. The chapter proudly sponsors the Fort Preservation Society, Children of the American Revolution.
Patriotism
We participate in the Fort Ligonier Days parade honoring local veterans from the French and Indian War forward. We support and honor our active duty personnel and their families through donations to Project Patriot, Rucksacks to Backpacks, and volunteered time at a regional Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital. Members are researching American Revolutionary War veterans’ graves in local cemeteries to determine which have markers and to place markers if not present.
